DIVINATION
Divination by Spoken Word and Book
Spoken Word
Have you ever been walking along, pondering a situation or a problem that you need a solution too and somehow over the din of every day living you hear a word or part of a conversation that fits. This is simply an example of oral divination or divination by spoken word. Many cultures still respect this and similar traditional divination techniques, however Western civilian has frown on this as an invasion of privacy. The answers come to you on the currents of air, winged messages if you please. So it's important not to dismiss them as figments of your imagination or "not your business". These words were given to you by a Divine source and should be listened to. If not the full answer they can point you in the right direction so that your travels are not so disheartening.
In some ancient cultures people would go into the temples of the gods, offer their coins or gifts, pose a question to the god and leave the temple with their ears covered. Once outside amongst the crowds, they would remove the covering over their ears and take as their answers the first words that they heard. In other cultures the supplicant would be inside while they contemplated and prayed about their problems and they would accept the first word heard once they left as an indication of what was to come or which path of action they should follow.
By Book
Divination by book is a simple technique that is quick and relatively easy to do. If you are pondering a situation or problem and you have come to a stalemate in your thinking, a quick help for direction or answer can be as close as a book.
Select a book randomly or you can pick a peticular book if you are drawn to it. Many people will pick up a copy of the Bible, dictionary or even an encyclopedia. Hold the book and ponder your question again. You can either flip the pages until you feel you must stop or you can allow the book to fall open onto your hands. Close your eyes and allow your hand to run over the page or pages until you feel that it is proper to stop. Within the words or phrases surrounding your finger will be an answer to your question.
CRYSTALS
Tourmaline
Tourmaline is a crystal that can be used to cleanse a person's entire existance. It can be found in the USA, Brazil, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Matagascar and South-west Africa. Tourmaline comes in a variety of colours; black, blue, green, watermelon and red and while all will cleanse the body each colour has it's own speciality. A special property of tourmaline is that when heated or rubbed an electrostatic charge can be built up in the stone; this may account for some ancient literature that describes tourmaline as a stone that glows.
Tourmaline helps us to rid ourselves of problem causing elements and it can be used to diffuse the effects of negative energy. On the mental level, tourmaline can help us to become more balanced as we discover our purpose for existance and while it won't show us direct answers it will help to shed light on information. Whether we accept this sometimes painful thought provoking information is up to us.
The various colours of tourmaline do have some specific benefits for some areas of the body. Green tourmaline is a great stone for general overall balancing but it will especially benefit and strengthen the heart, nervous system and immune system. Also because it is green it has the added effect of balancing the heart chakra. Black tourmaline helps to balance the root chakra and has benefits for the musclar structure of the body. Blue tourmaline helps the body deal with detoxification and improving the immune system. It also has the added bonus of helping to balance the throat chakra and therefore the throat area. Pink tourmaline can soothe and balance emotions and emotional outbursts.
As with all crystals, choose the colours that you are most drawn too. Your psyche will direct you to it's needs. To discharge and re-energize tourmaline you should place it under running water for a few minutes and then let it re-energize in sun light for a few hours; except for pink which would be better energized by being near amethyst.
CELEBRATE THE SEASONS
Smudging When Someone Passes On
Death is a part of life, and while it can be seen as a blessing or a shame depending on the events surrounding it, a number of religions treat it as a form of graduation and this is "a school of hard knocks." Either way we grieve not because they are gone but because we can't feel their presence in a way that is familiar to us. This smudging ritual may help you and those others on this side cope with that separation and heal any feelings of hurt, anger or betrayal. Yes betrayal, people can become very self-oriented when it comes to loved ones departing this world and the feelings of betrayal and being left behind can find a home, at least for a short time.
Do not worry about any tears shed during this meditation. Tears are the soul's way of healing. Let the soul have it's time to cry, moan and wail as it releases the hurt of separation. Know that you are blessed and that your loved one will be near you until it is time for you to cross over too.
MONTHLY MEDITATION
"Peace"
"Peace flows through my heart, and blows through me as a zephyr.
Peace fills me like a fragrance.
Peace runs through me like rays.
Peace stabs the heart of noise and worries.
Peace burns through my disquietude.
Peace, like a globe of fire, expands and fills my omnipresence.
Peace, like an ocean, rolls on in all space.
Peace, like red blood, vitalizes the veins of my thoughts.
Peace like a boundless aureole, encircles my body of infinity.
Peace-flames blow through the pores of my flesh, and through all space.
The perfume of peace flows over the gardens of blossoms.
The wine of peace runs perpetually through the wine press of all hearts.
Peace is the breathe of stones, stars, and sages.
Peace is the ambrosial wine of Spirit flowing from the cask of silence.
Which I quaff with my countless mouths of atoms."
from Metaphysical Meditations by Paramahansa Yogananda
